PRESIDENT BUSH AWARDS THE PRESIDENTIAL CITIZENS MEDAL TO
SAMUEL HEYMAN
WASHINGTON – Today President Bush awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal to Samuel Heyman, founder of the nonprofit, nonpartisan Partnership for Public Service.
The official citation for Heyman states:
“As a lawyer, public servant, and philanthropist, Samuel Heyman has acted on his steadfast devotion to our Nation. By encouraging young leaders to answer the call of public service, he has helped promote a vibrant Federal workforce. The United States honors Samuel Heyman for his dedication to improving the efficiency, transparency, and accountability of the Federal Government.”
The Presidential Citizens Medal was established in November 13, 1969, to recognize U.S. citizens who have performed exemplary deeds of service for the nation. It is one of the highest honors the President can confer upon a civilian, second only to the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Since it was established, approximately 100 people have been awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal. Heyman was one of twenty-three individuals honored by the President with the Presidential Citizens Medal.
The Partnership for Public Service works to revitalize the federal government by inspiring a new generation to serve and by transforming the way government works. For more information visit www.ourpublicservice.org.
